  • Muscle pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Pituitary disorders
  • Arthritis pain
  • Emotional disorders (anxiety, agitation, depression)
  • Motor vehicle accident related disorder
  • Digestive complaints
  • Psychological issues
  • Headaches
  • Sciatica
  • Tennis elbow
  • Tendinopathy
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Neuralgia
  • Whiplash associated issue
  • Concussion care
  • And, other health concerns.

These are just some of the several conditions where acupuncture may be beneficial. To determine if this would be part of the treatment plan that would be developed for you, it would require the following.

  • We begin with a consultation that allows us to get to know you. By answering our questions, you will be providing us with your previous and current health history.
  • The next step is a full assessment that will be conducted by one of our highly skilled and experienced physiotherapists. This will determine if acupuncture is the best course of treatment for you, and what other procedures may be necessary. The goal of the treatment program that we develop for you is to control your pain and provide you with the ability to have a better quality of life.
  • Throughout your personalized treatments sessions, you may be asked to participate in your pain control and healing process. Your physiotherapists in Burnaby may determine that at home exercises or the use of devices may be beneficial for you. You will find that when you can participate in your healing process that you will feel far more encouraged about your future.
  • Education is something else that we feel is important. Your physiotherapist will take the time to explain the details of your condition and why the treatments that have been prescribed will benefit you. If it turns out that acupuncture is the only treatment that is required, then that is all that will be suggested for you.

What is Acupuncture?

In short, a thin needle is inserted just under the skin at what is called acupressure points. It is believed that by stimulating these points, one can put the body back in balance.

FAQs

Is acupuncture covered by insurance?

Physiotherapists performing acupuncture are not considered medical doctors and therefore, do not have the same level of coverage as a physician. However, most health plans will cover acupuncture treatments for pain management or to help with depression.

How often should you get acupuncture?

This varies from person to person depending upon their needs. Some people need weekly sessions while others might only need once every few months. As long as you continue to improve after each session, there is no reason to stop getting them.

Can I combine acupuncture with another form of therapy?

Yes! Many patients who receive acupuncture also undergo physical rehabilitation programs. These include exercise, massage, cupping procedure, electrical stimulation, heat/cold packs, ultrasound, etc.
